AN INVESTIGATION is underway into whether anybody else was travelling in a lorry which crashed onto the A12 on Wednesday.
Essex Police said delays in recovering the lorry - which drove off of Coleman’s Bridge and landed on the motorway underneath, killing the driver - had been caused by the fact that it was carrying a ’large, industrial-sized battery that needed to be made safe’.
A force spokesman said: "Emergency services have been working around the clock to recover the vehicle and the trailer. It has been a very complex operation due to the nature of the vehicle’s load.
"As there was extensive damage to the vehicle, work is also being carried out to ensure that there have been no other casualties as a result of the collision.
"The trailer has been forensically recovered by the multi-agency response team and is being searched to ensure that there are no other fatalities.
"Essex Police and its other emergency response partners would like to thank the public for their patience whilst this vital work takes place."
